Drove to Fairlie on Good Friday and joined about 50 other vans for the combined Otago/South Canterbury Rally. The rally had all the usual gatherings - morning tea and happy hours plus a couple of extras like the walk in the park and some games involving hard boiled eggs. Ray actually won one event the throwing of an egg a massive 29 meters however he was beaten by Carol who threw 35meters, a great time was had by all including a dinner on Saturday night in the local hall which was catered for by the ladies from the local marching club, there were some items and a musical interlude by some South Canterbury members on piano and saxophones which was fantastic. At the raffles we won a prize which was a bonus for the weekend. Monday saw the local A & P Society show which was huge, apparently the biggest in the South Island, we met up with some East Taieri neighbours for some browsing the stalls and lunch, then hit the road mid afternoon to head home via the Mackenzie country.
Stopped in Tekapo to have a cup of coffee and admire the view, on a beautiful day, then after a tour around Twizel we stopped beside the Ahuriri river, just outside of Omarama for the night. Woke to a cool morning with the hint of a frost and watched the mountains above the early morning fog as it burned off by the rising sun.
After breakfast we went for a walk up the river then headed for home with stops in Omarama and Oamaru. It was a really good weekend and we are so looking forward to our new life which will start in 3 weeks Woo Hoo
